1. Who we are

This Site is operated by GEORGES LIFESTYLE GIFT TRADING LLC, trading as GEORGES of Dubai ("we", "us", "our"), a company licensed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. It applies to georgesofdubai.com and to our stores.

2. The personal data we process

Information you give us directly

  • Contact details — name, email, phone number, billing and delivery address.
  • Order details — what you bought, order history, delivery instructions. Card details are processed by our payment providers; we do not see or store full card numbers.
  • Account data — username, password (stored hashed), wishlist, saved addresses, store credit balance.
  • Communications — messages you send us by email, contact form, WhatsApp or in store, including returns correspondence and photographs you send us.
  • Marketing preferences — whether you have opted in to email or SMS.
  • Loyalty data — Club GEORGES membership, points and rewards, if you join.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring site, and how you move through the Site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Analytics and advertising data — collected through Shopify's own analytics, Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) pixel where you have consented to non-essential cookies.

Information from third parties

  • Shopify — order processing, fraud screening and store hosting.
  • Payment providers — confirmation of payment, and fraud or chargeback signals.
  • Delivery partners — delivery status and proof of delivery.

3. Why we process it, and our lawful basis

Under Article 4 of the UAE Personal Data Protection Law we process personal data with your consent, or where one of the law's other grounds applies. In practice:

What we do Why we are allowed to
Take, fulfil and deliver your order; process payment; handle returns, exchanges and store credit Performance of our contract with you
Send order confirmations, delivery updates and returns correspondence Performance of our contract with you
Keep tax, accounting and customs records Compliance with UAE legal obligations, including VAT
Marketing emails, SMS and personalised advertising Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time
Prevent, detect and investigate fraud; secure the Site; resolve disputes Our legitimate interest in protecting the business and our customers
Respond to a lawful request from a UAE authority, or bring or defend a legal claim Compliance with a legal obligation, or establishing and defending legal rights

We do not sell your personal data.

4. Automated decision-making and profiling

We do not make decisions about you by purely automated means that produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you.

We do use automated tools in two limited ways. Fraud screening: Shopify and our payment providers score orders for fraud risk, and a high-risk score may cause an order to be held for manual review. A person reviews the order before it is cancelled, and you can contact us to have the decision looked at again. Advertising and personalisation: where you have accepted non-essential cookies, we and our advertising partners group customers by interests and past browsing to decide which products to show you. This has no legal effect on you and you can opt out at any time by withdrawing cookie consent or by contacting us.

5. Who we share personal data with

We share personal data only with the following categories of recipient, and only as far as each needs it:

  • Store platform and hosting — Shopify Inc. (Canada / United States).
  • Payment processing — Shopify Payments and our other payment providers, including Stripe.
  • Delivery and logistics — our courier partners, including DHL and Aramex for international orders, and our local Dubai delivery partners.
  • Analytics and advertising — Google (Google Analytics) and Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram advertising), where you have consented.
  • Email, SMS and reviews — the providers we use to send marketing and transactional messages and to collect product reviews.
  • Professional advisers and authorities — our accountants, auditors and lawyers, and UAE government authorities where the law requires it.
  • A buyer of the business — if we merge, restructure or sell, personal data may transfer with the business. It stays protected by this policy until the recipient tells you otherwise.

We do not allow any of these recipients to use your personal data for their own unrelated purposes.

6. Transfers outside the UAE

Shopify, Google, Meta, Stripe and some of our couriers process personal data outside the UAE, including in the United States and the European Union. Where we transfer personal data out of the UAE we rely on the recipient being in a country the UAE Data Office recognises as providing adequate protection, or on contractual protections with the recipient that require them to protect the data to the standard required by UAE law. You can ask us which applies to a particular transfer.

7. How long we keep it

  • Order, invoice and payment records — retained for the period required by UAE tax and commercial law, currently 5 years from the end of the relevant tax period.
  • Customer accounts — kept while your account is open. If you ask us to close it, we delete or anonymise the account, keeping only what the retention rules above require.
  • Marketing data — kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, and then suppressed so we do not contact you again.
  • Customer service and returns correspondence — kept for up to 3 years after the matter closes, so we can deal with any follow-up claim.
  • Analytics and advertising data — kept for the retention period set in each tool, typically no more than 26 months.
  • CCTV in our stores — kept for a short period on a rolling basis and then overwritten, unless needed for a specific incident.

When a retention period ends we delete the data or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you.

8. How we protect it

All traffic to and from the Site is encrypted using SSL/TLS. Card payments are handled by PCI-DSS compliant providers. Access to customer data in our systems is limited to staff who need it, and is protected by individual accounts. We review who has access when people join or leave.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that data sent over the internet is completely safe. We do not ask for card details, passwords or copies of identity documents by email or WhatsApp — if you receive a message that appears to be from us asking for those, please contact us before replying.

9. If there is a data breach

If a breach happens that would prejudice your privacy, confidentiality or security, we will notify the UAE Data Office without undue delay, and we will notify you directly where the breach is likely to cause you harm. Our notice will describe what happened, the data involved, the likely consequences, what we have done about it, and who you can contact.

10. Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run the Site, remember your cart and keep you signed in — these do not need your consent. We also use analytics and advertising cookies, which we only set where you accept them. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the cookie settings on the Site, or by clearing cookies in your browser. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the Site working.

11. Your rights

Under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law you have the right to:

  • Be informed — to know what we hold, why we process it, who receives it, how long we keep it and how it is protected. This policy is that information.
  • Access — to get a copy of the personal data we hold about you, free of charge.
  • Portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format, or have it sent to another controller where technically feasible.
  • Correction — to have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
  • Erasure — to have your data deleted, except where we must keep it by law.
  • Restrict processing — to ask us to pause processing in certain circumstances.
  • Object — to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to object to direct marketing and to profiling at any time.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these, email contact@georgesofdubai.com. We will respond within one calendar month. If your request is complex or you have made several, we may extend that by up to two further months and will tell you why within the first month. We may need to verify your identity first. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first at contact@georgesofdubai.com so we can put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the UAE Data Office (the UAE Data Protection Office), which supervises compliance with the Personal Data Protection Law. You do not have to come to us first.

13. Children

The Site is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Other sites

The Site links to other places, such as our Instagram and Facebook pages and our delivery partners' tracking pages. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Our store is hosted by Shopify Inc., which processes data under its own terms — you can read Shopify's privacy policy.

15. Changes

We may update this policy. We will post the new version here and change the "last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use your personal data, we will tell you directly where we can.
