DESCRIPTION

Sometimes my heart feels like a big yellow star, shiny and bright. I smile from ear to ear and twirl around so fast, I feel as if I could take off into the sky. This is when my heart is happy. Happiness, sadness, bravery, anger, shyness . . . our hearts can feel so many feelings! Some make us feel as light as a balloon, others as heavy as an elephant. In My Heart explores a full range of emotions, describing how they feel physically, inside. With language that is lyrical but also direct, toddlers will be empowered by this new vocabulary and able to practice articulating and identifying their own emotions. With whimsical illustrations and an irresistible die-cut heart that extends through each spread, this unique feelings book is gorgeously packaged. The Growing Hearts series celebrates the milestones of a toddler emotional development, from conquering fears and expressing feelings to welcoming a new sibling.

Starring the same little girl in the same charming illustration style as Hello In There!, In My Heart explores emotions--happiness, sadness, bravery, anger, shyness and more. Unlike other feelings books that tend to oversimplify, In My Heart lyrically explains what an emotion feels like, physically, inside. For example: "When I get really angry, my heart feels like it's going to explode! Don't come near me! My heart is yelling, hot and loud. This is when my heart is mad." Toddlers will be empowered by this new vocabulary and able to practice articulating and identifying their own emotions. On the cover and the right side of each spread, a die-cut heart decreases in size, creating a multi-coloured heart the depth of the entire book.

From School Library Journal

PreS—A little girl wonders about her not-yet-born sibling, reassuring and encouraging the baby by telling of all the good things waiting out in the world ("like strawberries and cupcakes-my favorites!"). The child appears on the recto of each spread while her mother's belly is shown growing larger on the verso. Youngsters can lift a flap to see the developing fetus against imaginative backgrounds. Childlike drawings with cleverly used white space and colorful images create suspense leading up to the moment when big sister and baby finally, happily meet. Preschoolers will enjoy this sweet story.—Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Carroll County Public Library, MD
